John Keats: Ode
#1
Gb-England
John Keats

Ode

Bards of Passion and of Mirth,
Ye have left your souls on earth!
Have ye souls in heaven too,
Double lived in regions new!
Yes, and those of heaven commune
With the spheres of sun and moon;
With the noise of fountains wond’rous,
And the parle of voices thund’rous;
With the whisper of heaven’s trees
And one another, in soft ease
Seated on Elysian lawns
Brows’d by none but Dian’s fawns;
Underneath large blue-bells tented,
Where the daisies are rose-scented,
And the rose herself has got
Perfume which on earth is not;
Where the nightingale doth sing
Not a senseless, tranced thing,
But divine melodious truth;
Philosophic numbers smooth;
Tales and golden histories
Of heaven and his mysteries.

Thus ye live on high, and then
On the earth ye live again;
And the souls ye left behind you
Teach us, here, the way to find you,
Where your other souls are joying,
Never slumber’d, never cloying.
Here, your earth-born souls still speak
To mortals, of their litttle week;
Of their sorrows and delights;
Of their passions and their spites;
Of their glory and their shame;
What doth strengthen and what maim.
Thus ye teach us, every day,
Wisdom, though fled far away.

Bards of Passion and of Mirth,
Ye have left your souls on earth!
Ye have souls in heaven too,
Double-lived in regions new!

Lamia, etc., 1820

Ode

Sänger von Passion und Glück,
Ließt die Seelen hier zurück!
Habt ihr auch im Himmel Seelen,
Noch ein Leben dort zu wählen?
Ja! Und das im Himmel wäre
Eins mit Sonn’- und Mondessphäre;
Mit Geräusch von Wunderquellen
Und mit Babels Donner-Bellen;
Unter Edens Flüster-Bäumen
Könnt ihr alle Zeiten träumen,
Schlummernd in Elysiums Daunen,
Nur geneckt von Ianas Faunen.
Unter’m Glockenblumenzelt
Sich die Gänseblume hält;
Rosen haben solchen Duft,
Den man sonst vergebens sucht.
Wo die Nachtigall so singt,
Als wär’s göttlich-unbedingt:
Nicht entleerte Melodien,
Sondern Himmels-Harmonien;
Um Mysterien und Geschichten
Aus dem Jenseits zu berichten.

So lebt ihr, erhoben, und
Noch einmal im Erdenrund.
Und die Geister, die ihr spürt,
Zeigen uns, was zu euch führt:
Dort, wo eure and’ren Seelen,
Sich stets freuen, niemals quälen.
Auf der Welt mit ihren Schwächen
Menschen so zu Toten sprechen:
Von den Sorgen, ihren Freuden,
Von dem Ärger, ihren Leiden,
Von all dem, was hebt und grämt,
Was sie stärkt und was sie lähmt.
Jederzeit zeigt ihr uns so:
Weisheit, die mit euch entfloh.

Sänger von Passion und Glück,
Ließt die Seelen hier zurück,
Doch ihr habt im Himmel Seelen,
Euch mit diesem zu vermählen!
