So shines El Draque, bright in story old
As when great navies fled his face in fear:
Bright as when reiving all a merry year
He swept an ocean clean of fame and gold
And sped with dancing heart and heavy hold
up the fair Sound, home to his county dear.
Two gifts he gave his England in her need:
-Spain's galleons driving north beneath the blast
While England's waves and guns roared loud in glee,
-A cockboat manned with lads of Devon's breed
That through the Straits of Death defiant passed
And sped exulting o'er the unknown sea.
