Beer Drinker´s Lament
In 1516 William IV.
Ruled: Water, Hop and Malt, no more, no less
Shall be The Holy Beerity, God Bless
Bavaria - and her Grand Duke, of course.
This venerable law has been a source
of comfort for us drinkers but alas:
In 1987 brayed the ass-
embly of the Court Den Haag: Perforce
we`ll open up the market for all sorts
of chemically altered stuff called beer,
and Germans have to tolerate imports.
Since then we watched our glorious Country steer
towards the end, we dropped our leather shorts,
in short, we lost all civilised veneer.
