One thought alone gives me both pleasure and pain
First filling my heart with sweetness then with bitterness
Between the doubt and the hope that press upon my mind
So that peace and rest fly from me,

So, dear sister, if this note brings forth
The wish to meet that I so strongly hold
It is that which gives me pain and sorrow
If something is not done to make it happen soon.

I have sen a ship blown by contrary winds
Back to the open sea, just as it entered harbour
And clear skies suddenly covered with storm clouds.

So I am filled with fear, and tremble,
