Hear the Voice
Hear the voice of the Bard,
Who present, past, and future sees;
Whose ears have heard
The Holy Word
That walk’d among the ancient trees;
Calling the lapsèd soul,
And weeping in the evening dew;
That might control
The starry pole,
And fallen, fallen light renew!
‘O Earth, O Earth, return!
Arise from out the dewy grass!
Night is worn,
And the morn
Rises from the slumbrous mass.

Why wilt thou turn away?
The starry floor,
The watery shore,
Is given thee till the break of day.’

Hört den Sänger und Seher
Von Gestern, Jetzt und Morgen träumen,
Dessen Ohr Gewähr
Für’s Heilige wär,
Das wandelt zwischen alten Bäumen.
Er ruft gestürzte Seelen,
abends, mit trauerfeuchtem Blick.
Kann sich stellen
Besternten Quellen
Und bringt gefall’nes Licht zurück!
'O Erd’, O Erd’, aufziehe!
Erheb’ dich aus dem feuchten Grase!
Nacht war Mühe
Und die Frühe
Scheidet sich von dumpfer Masse.
Abkehr’ dich nimmermehr;
Warum stellst du’s in Frage?
Das Sternenheer,
Das weite Meer,
Hast du bis ans Ende der Tage.’
