Sonnets 014 - ZaunköniG - 13.08.2007

William Shakespeare
1564 – 1616 England

XIV.

Not from the stars do I my judgment pluck;
And yet methinks I have astronomy,
But not to tell of good or evil luck,
Of plagues, of dearths, or seasons' quality;
Nor can I fortune to brief minutes tell,
Pointing to each his thunder, rain and wind,
Or say with princes if it shall go well,
By oft predict that I in heaven find:
But from thine eyes my knowledge I derive,
And, constant stars, in them I read such art
As truth and beauty shall together thrive,
If from thyself to store thou wouldst convert;
Or else of thee this I prognosticate:
Thy end is truth's and beauty's doom and date.

XIV.

Nicht von den Sternen pflück’ ich weise Kunde,
Und glaube doch, mir eignet Seherblick,
Künd’ ich auch nicht die gut’ und böse Stunde,
Noch Teu’rung, Pest und andres Mißgeschick;
Kann ich auch nicht Minuten prophezeien,
Da Regen sein wird, Wetterschlag und Wind,
Noch Fürsten Rat und Wissenschaft verleihen,
Die mir am Himmel aufgezeichnet sind.
Allein aus deinen Augen schöpf’ ich Wissen,
In diesen treuen Sternen lese ich,
Daß Treu und Schönheit herrlich blühen müssen,
Bekehrst du, Liebster, zur Vermehrung dich.

Sonst wird dein Tod, laß dies mich prophezei’n,
Der Treu und Schönheit Tod und Ende sein.
