Elevated reflection oft attain'd
The high-directed aim at which it soar'd ;
Not as often kindred mind has deplored
The cost through which it was possess'd ; unfeign'd
Associated thought that contemplates
One who has the bright-plumaged bird that seeks
The source of radiance which as spirit breaks
Through shadows, falls from perfecting, still great ;
Recalling him in memory who sought
The m yst'ries of Euripus' waves to scan
Who felt that as engulphed was his thought,
Dashing his form where the wild billows ran,
And all who have as stars a track illumed
Afar from glories of the earth, their own entomb'd.
