The creative power of Fancy drew
The portraiture of Midas laving where
Pactolus' waters like the bright thought, rare
Reflected the primeval base of gold ;
Emblematic of genius in its might
Which as he whose touching chang'd instant all
To brilliant gold, where'er its glancings fall,
Upsprings the ray of earth's immortal light.
But is there not more valued gift than this?
See if 'tis not found in transmuting thought
Which would o'erpass the road to mental bliss ,
Yet through just reason to its track is brought ;
No mind attainment is decried, but here
Darkness is illum'd, re-created the soul's sphere.
