How piercingly breathes AEolus upon
Each op'ning blossom of the youthful spring,
And the prolific orb of light which shone
Resplendent, now around are gathering
Dark envious clouds that gloomy shadows fling!
An emblem of the Poet's blooming flow'rs
Which hope and fancy to his spiri bring
While roving through imaginary bow'rs
Amid a world where adverse fortune blows, -
To wither thoughts that like those buds disclose
Their beauty most when kindly zephyrs play,
And thus retarded is that promise fair
Decking with loveliness the soul's parterre
When 'neath the influence of each con genial ray.
