By needed reflection of th' aim sublime
Many have taken and attain'd that climb,
How aspiring soe'er ; if the pow'r 's own'd,
Metrically harmonious— the chime
Of Euterpe etherlal might crown'd,
The high-fix'd standard fair knowledge will raise
Shows to lesser merit its consistent sphere,
Really as to other minds will the praise
That honours self rationally appear ;
For egotism, Menecrates will give
A corrective all may applyingly receive.
