The wisdom of the style is clear to those
'Gainst error who with vehemence declaim
More than to the listeners, they disclose,
That with them it is but a passing name,
Leaving censors monopoly of shame ; —
The angry sound of thunder injures not
When that is o'er the stroke effects its aim,
Oft is such oratory weak — forgot ;
Truth inculcated all vice undermines,
With eloquence calm effectually shines,
But those amalgamate themselves with wrong,
Who (not intending) animosity's tone
Cause t' usurp the dictatorial throne,
With strength subduing, but force not as strong.
