While armies desolate, grim wounds and death
Attending their march through every land,
A good physician almost the breath
Restores, answering his skill's great command ;
Is there pursuit nobler than that of one
Who like wise benevolence heals and saves,
No phase of dire affliction e'er will shun,
Turning disease to health — contagion braves ?
Th' illustrious bard in his immortal song
Oft linger'd as if fondly on this theme,
Reminding of iEsculapius, along
With Podalirius — Machaon, you deem
How much of the greatest Science ho thought
That ever captivates when finely sought.
