They have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid Him." -
JOHN xx. 13.

OH! sweet complain of disappointed love,
Thy faithful tone, dear voice of hallowed Grief,
Is writ for thee on an eternal leaf, -
Recorded high in court supreme above,
That so it may have lasting memory;
A mild reproof to me is in thy tone,
For when I wake to find my Lord is gone,
I never ask who Him has borne away,
Though well I know of mine own house are they; -
Foes still within, who pillow on this breast,
Where but the head of my true Lord should rest,
Are they that would my lost love thus betray.
O faithful Grief! teach me thy tender plain,
And chance I, too, may find my Lord again.
