Nay doubt not, England, that thy great White Lands
Feel all the might and splendour of thy sway
Through all thine East, from where the dawn is grey
On yonder strength that China's will commands,
To where full Indus sweps through tawny sands
On to the gulf that takes the sunset ray,
Or stern Pershawur guards the straight North way,
Or flushed and radiant, queenly Agra stands.
Like thee, we hold by all the noble lives
That careless India at thy hands hath ta'en,
We know the World whereby her sons are free:
Her golden tale in all our hearts revives
The flame that leapt in Hastin's eager brain,
That lit Clive's heart with all eternity.
