Labour - ZaunköniG - 21.04.2012 Labour What guerdon hath She then for them that toil? I hear one ask: is then Her lot so blest A man may cleave to Her and scorn the rest? Life blooms as fair on many an alien soil! -Nay, for we hold that 'mid the fierce turmoil And jar of life Her way is still the best, And that by Her the poor and sore opprest Have hope and strength Greed's iron hand to foil. Two Powers are given us: Might that fronts the foe Freeing our lives from Envy's gripe of steel, Giving us peace and joy of heaven's dear light; And Love, whereby our spirit's life doth grow Into one brave and lovely Commonweal Strong in the people's will and sovereign right. |
