War-waves against thy squares of steel and flame
Thundering incessant: on the left the might
And joy of horse hurling the foe in flight,
Rockwise ahead, the farm of glorious fame
Taking hell's surges as they onward came,
Guard with Guard grappling in titanic fight,
- Thus swayed thy battle, till before the night
Once more the world had peace in England's name.
And now our heroes strive, a vaster host
Against a vaster wrong, athwart the plain
Where erst thy valour turned the tyrant's boast
To empty air: nor shall our onset cease
Until, thy battle fought and won again,
Once more in England's name the world hath peace.
