Iris
Over het grauwe golvend bergland joegen
De angstig zwangre wolke' hun nacht, - de
Donder beide - en de doffe echo's rilden,
Tot zij hun roffel uit alle rotsen sloegen.
Maar waar tot mij de hemel boog, daar tilde
De lucht haar zware wimpers op, - haar voegen
Barstten open - en breede stralen droegen
Het druipend goud op 't hoogland, waar het trilde
Toen groeide over mijn duizlend hoofd uit vale
Diepten een purpren vlam, die langzaam steeg,
Om als een blonde engel naar 't licht te dalen.
0, dat mijn lied die lichte vleugels kreeg!
Dat het als Iris uit den nacht kwam stralen -
Zijn glans als 'n engel naar de toekomst neeg!
