L'alto et novo miracol ch'a' dí nostri
apparve al mondo, et star seco non volse,
che sol ne mostrò 'l ciel poi sel ritolse,
per adornarne i suoi stellanti chiostri,
vuol ch'i' depinga a chi nol vide, e 'l mostri,
Amor, che 'n prima la mia lingua sciolse,
poi mille volte indarno a l'opra volse
ingegno, tempo, penne, carte, e 'nchiostri.
Non son al sommo anchor giunte le rime:
in me il conosco; et proval ben chiunque
è 'nfin a qui, che d'amor parli o scriva.
Chi sa pensare, il ver tacito estime,
ch'ogni stil vince, et poi sospire: - Adunque
beati gli occhi che la vider viva. -

Das hehre Wunder, das dem Erdenrunde
Unlängst erschien und dann sich aufgeschwungen,
Das Gott uns nur gezeigt und drauf entrungen,
Ein Schmuck zu sein in seiner Sterne Bunde,
Soll malen ich, Unkundigen zur Kunde,
Will Amor, der zuerst das Band der Zungen
Gelöst, dann tausendmal zum werk gedrungen
Verstand, Papier und Tint und Stift und Stunde.
Doch noch gebricht dem Lied die höchste Fülle;
Ich kenn es, und, wer bis zu diesem Tage
Von Liebe sprach und schrieb, muß Recht mir geben.
Wer Wahrheit denken kann, erwäge stille,
was jeglich Wort besiegt, und seufz und sage:
„Den Augen Heil, die sie gesehn im Leben!“
