George Gordon Noel
Lord Byron
1788 - 1824 Großbritannien
Childe Harolds Pilgrimage
Canto IV
Stanza 180
His steps are not upon thy paths,—thy fields
Are not a spoil for him,—thou dost arise
And shake him from thee; the vile strength he wields
For Earth's destruction thou dost all despise,
Spurning him from thy bosom to the skies -
And send'st him, shivering in thy playful spray
And howling, to his Gods, where haply lies
His petty hope in some near port or bay,
And dashest him again to Earth:—there let him lay.
Knappe Harolds Pilgerfahrt
4. Gesang
Stanze 180
Er geht nicht deinen Weg. Deine Gefilde
kann er nicht plündern. Du wirst aufwärts steigen
und lässt ihn hinter dir, wirst seinen wilden
und rohen Kräften nur Verachtung zeigen.
Du stößt ihn fort. Der Himmel sei ihm eigen!
Er soll erschaudern, lässt du Gischt auffliegen.
Den Göttern gelt' sein Reden oder Schweigen
und Hoffnung mag im Hafen fast obsiegen.
Wirf ihn nur wieder an den Strand. Dort lass ihn liegen.
