Walter Savage Landor (1775-1864)
Dying Speech of an Old Philosopher
I strove with none, for none was worth my strife:
Nature I loved, and, next to Nature, Art:
I warm’d both hands before the fire of Life;
It sinks; and I am ready to depart.
(1849)
Walter Savage Landor (1775-1864)
Letzte Worte eines alten Philosophen
Ich stritt mit niemand, nichts schien es mir wert.
Ich liebte die Natur. Und Kunst zu seh’n,
War wie das Leben selbst ein warmer Herd;
Das Feuer sinkt. Ich bin bereit zu geh’n.
