Is ought more expressively lovely than
The vocal pow'r when delightedly heard
And as finely sounded? — Ask where began
That melody which the innate chords stirr'd ;

The form unseen, imagine 'tis from one
Fair from the fair progenitor of all, —
The euphony may on the spirit fall
As Poesy's waves sparkling in the sun.

Could fancy err, conjecturing the mind
Was beautiful as ev'ry lovely note,
Which, as borne by imagination's wind
On the soft breath of harmony does float ?
And were it thus, forgiv'n might be the thought,
So full, so rich the mystic power brought.
