Were the utterance equal to the thought
Say, of melody, how then would it sound?
As if an unimagin'd pow'r had brought
All that actuality now has found,
Evidencing — superior is mind
To the instruments of its unknown might
As to the varied medium is the light
Or truth to all imagining can find ;
What soul-form'd eloquenoe is never spoke,
Kestrain'd as if an influence would bind,
Dawning genius on the spirit broke,
And highest poesy the laurel twin'd !
Expressionless th' outward development,
As if too weak to show all nature sent.
