THE AURORA BOEEALIS.
(Suggested by the description of Eugene Sue.)

Near the horizon's verge globuloua light
Breaks forth, from the radiant centre rear
What to imagining columns appear
Of tow'rs contrasted with the darken'd height,

Illum'd with blushes as Aurora bright,
Which engirt the ambient land and sea,
Gliding like glory to eternity.
'Mid earth, or in its trackless unknown flight,

The waste of snow shines to th' attracted sight,
Each ioy mountain takes a glowing hue ;
Redden'dare the dark rocks that, stately , grew
On either continent, guards in their might ;
Pale, embleming th' expiring saint, it dies,
Luminously shining in encircling skies.
