How oft has the assassin judgment found
When least expected fearfully has come,
In the retributively secret wound,
Or like the vengeance that swept over Rome,
When blazed each classic column and the dome,
Made sacred by the great, 'neath which have stood
Those who have chased away the darken'd gloom
With bright Philosophy, that earth o'erspread !

And return'd unscathed, as is the air
The type of that he sought, which aye deforms
