Altho' th' utterance speaks in its own praise,
May not the thought embody an idea
Which might in its originality be near
The subject — but what if none it can raise ?

Certes, in the writer's sphere it displays,
Wondrously does the mechanism appear
And what is not beheld, but still is there,
Which e'en in sound, description nice portrays ;

Does not this evidence a style of mind?
What are the lips but organs of the soul ?
As that is tuned th' articulation gives
That which the thought can in resem blance find,
And as conceptions o'er the spirit roll
Each accent corresponding tone receives.
