June

Once Beauty sought to be estranged from Love,
And June was called as handmaid of her mood.
A vestal she whose presence is imbued
With outward cold; but when through plains she'd rove,
Or on the heights a snowy garment wove,
A subtle solace in the quietude
Of voiceless living would unseen intrude
And wintry nascence stir in every grove.
Boronia-floods, warm-scented, rose for her;
And, when on the hills of early green she hid,
Pure Frost his gems of glory for her bore
And firstling wattle was Spring's harbinger.
Then Beauty, standing broidered heaths amid,
Said, "Loe is Life; I am estranged no more!"
