A Smiling Sea

Two barques are passing on the sea of fate,
Which gently bandies them upon its breast,
Croons low a carol of their sunny quest,
And bears them safely through the coraled strait.

The seagods gather to felicitate
Along the blue-white furrows of the crest;
There is no green-eyed monster manifest,
No fear of mutiny in either mate.

Tall palms are waving welcome on a strand;
A tropic isle uncovers to their sight.
The vessels fold their pinions near the land,

Like two young doves retiring from a flight,
And, where regret is written on the sand,
Drop anchor in the harbor of delight.
